I was tempted to put Johnson on last week’s list of AAF players who could interest the Eagles but I ultimately left him off because he’s 30 and he’s been on five different NFL teams since entering the NFL as a seventh-round pick in 2013. Pro Football Focus graded Johnson — the AAF’s all-time leading receiver — as the best player at his position in the now defunct league. The 6-2, 216 pound pass catcher was targeted 68 times for 45 receptions, 687 yards (15.3 average) Youth J.J. Arcega-Whiteside Jersey , and five touchdowns in eight games with the Orlando Apollos. Johnson’s quarterback had a 123.8 passer rating while targeting him, which was good for sixth best in the league. Prior to playing in the AAF, Johnson’s most extensive NFL experience came playing for the Vikings. He appeared in 39 games (17 starts) for Minnesota from 2014 through 2016. One does have to wonder what the Eagles’ serious interest in field-stretching receivers means for the status of injured players such as Mack Hollins and Mike Wallace. Both players are eligible to return to the active roster this season but it remains to be seen if it’ll happen for sure. We’ll see.For now J.J.
