The Players Championship gets underway in Southport on Monday with the top 16 players of this season involved in the big-money event. Qualification for the tournament is based on the one-year ranking list, which has seen Ronnie O’Sullivan miss out after the drama of the Shoot Out at the weekend.
The Rocket has won the last two editions of the Players Championship but won’t be back to defend his title, leaving the likes of Judd Trump, Neil Robertson and Shaun Murphy among the favourites to claim the £125,000 top prize.

World number one Judd Trump beat Yan Bingtao 10-4 in the final of the Coral Players Championship in Southport to claim a record-equalling fifth ranking event of the season.
Trump is only the fifth player after Stephen Hendry, Ding Junhui, Mark Selby and Ronnie O'Sullivan to reach the milestone after previous victories in the International Championship, World Open, Northern Ireland Open and the German Masters.
The world champion stole the opening frame on the black after needing a snooker to tie, Yan leaving a free ball on the final red after earlier making a break of 70.
